Washingtonia Filifera California Fan Palm is an exceptionally hardy palm variety ideal for a range of landscaping applications, particularly in dry and coastal environments. This medium-sized palm (5 - 10m in most garden settings) is a great performer in larger gardens and public spaces, and in time, forms a majestic palm with the classical fan-shaped leaves and beautiful ornate grey trunk. The fronds of Washingtonia Filifera California Fan Palm have a mild silvery tinge to them, providing a beautiful contrast to other (boring green) palm varieties, particularly when interplanted.
Despite the beautiful appearance of the California Fan Palm, the plants are actually very robust and quite easy to grow. They are generally pest and disease resistant and handle a very diverse range of growing conditions from very hot to relatively cool, and are also drought tolerant. Unlike many of the common and wild varieties of Palms which tend to grow irregularly and are often difficult to establish, the ashingtonia Filifera California Fan Palm is highly suitable for landscape applications because of its superior performance, particularly its drought and cold tolerance, with established plants being able to survive temperatures below freezing (unlike many other palms).
