Salvia Apiana Sacred White Sage is a compact evergreen perennial shrub, with beautiful whitish foliage that is native to the southwestern United States. Whilst the plant has a stunning appearance and is suitable for many landscape applications, the plant is most commonly grown for its aromatic foliage. Native American tribes considered this to be a sacred, cleansing, purifying and protective plant and have used this variety for centuries in ceremonies and to treat a range of ailments. Salvia Apiana Sacred White Sage is even more popular today, particularly in the production of essential oils, as well as many other uses in the fields of alternative medicine, including aromatherapy. Salvia Apiana Sacred White Sage is often grown for the production of leaves and stems used in the production of White Sage smudge sticks, and makes a great addition to herb and vegetable gardens as its flowers are great for attracting bees and butterflies, that can assist in the pollination of your herb and vegetable garden.
As the largest genus in the mint family, the Salvia genus consists of more than 900 species, consisting of small and large plants, annual and perennials, and there is sure to be variety that is suited for your particular garden application. At The Climbing Fig we stock what we consider to be the highest performing varieties of both ornamental and edible salvia, and are always on the lookout for worthy additions. Anyone who has a particular interest in learning more about salvia plant varieties, should check out a feature article titled The Joy of Salvia which was published in the Gardening Australia Magazine in June 2012. The article is available on the Gardening Australia website. As the article is a few years old now, several new varieties are now available, however it is a great read for anyone with an interest in learning how salvia plants can be used.
Important note: These organic seeds have recently been imported directly from California, the natural habitat of Salvia Apiana (where Native American tribes used the plant widely), therefore the seeds are not only fresh, but guaranteed to be true to type. Unfortunately, in recent times we have recently observed the presence of several unscrupulous operators passing off other varieties as White Sage, which are clearly fake. If you are after true White Sage (Salvia Apiana), be sure to take advantage of the fresh seeds on offer.
