Climbing Bean Purple King Seeds

Inc. GST + FREE Shipping

Climbing Bean Purple King is a very popular climbing purple bean variety that produces heavy yields of long flat purple beans approximately 17-18cm in length. This variety is a favourite for the home vegie-garden, as it is very easy to grow, so the kids can get involved, and best of all, the harvested beans are highly nutritious. These beans will also fascinate the kids as they quickly change from purple to green during the cooking process, hence the common name, Magic Bean. What better way to get the kids to put the computer games down for a minute, and get them interested in gardening? The Purple King variety also grows well with our favourite dwarf bean variety Cherokee Wax. Climbing Bean Purple King is also often referred to as Purple Wax, Blue Coco or Magic Bean.

Up they come

Have had problems with growing beans but these are growing nicely - have to make a trellis for them.

I planted these seeds in a space between the house and a side fence, the idea being that if they could grow to a decent height (i.e. the top of the fence), they would get good sun (the ground itself only gets 4-5 hours of sun/day in the winter). It is May in Northern New South Wales and the seeds were planted in a low-cost compost, with a little organic fertiliser (chicken manure plus seaweed) added after germination. The first seedlings germinated after about 9 days and about 80% of seeds have germinated by two weeks and seem to be growing according to plan, which I take as a good result in this type of situation.

The seeds were delivered in good time and price included delivery, which is not common. The Climbing Fig was also not pretending to have seeds they didn't have, which I experienced with other businesses when looking for these seeds.
