Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo is a compact hardy evergreen shrub that is used to provide colour in a range of gardens and landscaping environments. Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo plants provide a year round display of Autumn colour, depending on the amount of sunshine the plants receive. In heavily shaded aspects, for instance under a maple tree in a Japanese garden, Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo is generally green with the occasional flicker of yellow and orange, however as the amount of sun exposure increases, for instance in a full sun aspect as part of an informal border planting, the foliage turns a burnt orange through to a stunning red wine burgundy colour. Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo is most commonly grown as an informal hedge providing beautiful colour and requiring only a light trim, to keep it in shape, if required. Nandina varieties are also popular in a range of Japanese, Zen and Asian style gardens in general and can also be used to create unique bonsai specimens. Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo is suitable for pots, borders, rockeries and other garden situations, particularly dry areas where it may be difficult to establish other plants with higher water requirements. Nandina Domestica Sacred Zen Bamboo is very easy to grow and does not require any maintenance, will tolerate soils with generally poor nutrition and is resistant to most common garden pests and diseases, however the seeds can often take extended periods to germinate.
