Inc. GST + FREE Shipping

Acer Palmatum Laceleaf Japanese Maple (also known as A. Palmatum Atropurpureum) is a small-growing, hardy deciduous ornamental tree that is very popular in gardens and landscapes in temperate areas for its beautiful burgundy colour. Acer Palmatum Laceleaf Japanese Maple provides a stunning display of colour.

Acer Palmatum Laceleaf Japanese Maple is commonly grown in a wide range of soil types ranging from sandy loams through to heavier clays, with the plant able to tolerate variable soil moisture levels. However due to its beautiful, zen-inspired plant architecture and warm colour, Acer Palmatum Laceleaf Japanese Maple is most often grown as a bonsai. Like all Maple varieties, Acer Palmatum Laceleaf Japanese Maple is also suitable as a bonsai, provided the seeds are germinated in either Jiffy pellets for a shallow compact root system, or in a low-organic matter soil to ensure the plants are not very vigorous. If the young plants are not being started in Jiffy pellets, the tap-root should either be snipped or curled (J-rooted) within the first 8 - 12 weeks of germination, to ensure the plant remains optimally suited for bonsai.

Important note: Acer Palmatum "Laceleaf Japanese Maple" is also known as Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum. Please note, this is one of the few Maple varieties that maintains a red-burgundy leaf colour from Spring through to Autumn, at which time the colour intensifies further. In contrast, most maple varieties actually have green leaves in Spring-Summer, which only begin to turn yellow/orange/red in late Summer and into Autumn-Winter. The seeds of this variety are genuine and should not be compared to the far inferior wild varieties often incorrectly passed-off as Acer Palmatum "Laceleaf Japanese Maple" or Acer Palmatum "Atropurpureum Japanese Maple".
