This popular heirloom variety of blue pumpkin is sure to be highly rewarding in any home vegetable garden, not just for its famously heavy yields, but also because the fruit has only a very thin blue-grey skin, ensuring a thick slab of orange flesh is ready for your next adventure in the kitchen. When cooked, the fruit has a rich flavour and beautiful buttery/creamy texture, making them ideal for roasting or soup. Like all pumpkins, they require a sunny spot in the garden and for the leaves to remain dry during watering. Whilst pumpkins can be picked when they are young for a range of gourmet dishes, they are typically left until the vine dies and the stalk to the pumpkin turns brown. Under cool, dark and dry storage conditions, harvested pumpkins can last several pumpkins. Please remember, all pumpkins like to run, so ensure there is plenty of room in your (or your neighbours!) garden, before deciding on where to plant these seeds.
