Corymbia Eucalyptus Ficifolia Lasseter's Reef Seeds

Inc. GST + FREE Shipping

This stunning native variety, Corybia Ficifolia was previously known as Eucalyptus Ficifolia up until 2009 when a bunch of plant geneticists (Parra-O and colleagues) made a breakthrough in rDNA analysis and identified that this stunning species actually belongs to the genus Corymbia, however is most commonly referred to as the Flowering Gum for obvious reasons and remains one of the most popular Australian native trees. Corybia Ficifolia is native to a small area in south western coastal Western Australia where it endures desert like conditions, however, the variety has adapted well to cultivation in a variety of environments, ranging from cold winters in Victoria all the way up north through to the sub-tropics where it has become a popular choice. This species is also a popular export, with many varieties grown as far as California and beyond. Corymbia Ficifolia is commonly grown in a range of landscape and public space settings due to its compact growth, relatively small size, tough evergreen nature and the beautiful colour that covers the tree during the onset of Summer. Whilst the most common colour is red, a range of variants and hybrids have emerged in recent years that provide an exciting selection. The variety Corybia Ficifolia Lasseter's Reef is a selection of crossed interspecific varieties that have been identified to be a specific colour and with the seeds collected from relevant parent. In most cases the flower colour of Corymbia Ficifolia plants resemble the colour of their parents, however, due to ready cross-pollinating nature of this variety, difference in flower colour can occur. Fortunately, plant habits of this variety remain stable, with dense, compact growth even during periods of drought. A true marvel of the Australian outback.
