Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones premium Seeds

Inc. GST + FREE Shipping

Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones is a conspicuous and intriguing succulent originating from South Africa where it grows in quartz crevices in the West Cape region. Unfortunately, due to aggressive harvesting by over enthusiastic succulent collectors, Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones, also known as the Shandi Stones or Living Stones, is unfortunately rarely found in its native habitat. Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones is highly sought after because of its small silvery leaves (covered in stellate hairs) which are present in distinct pairs, which can resemble a split rock or as described in Afrikaans, Haaibekkie, which translates to, beak of shark. As the plants mature, they produce a finely-cut and scented, white or commonly pink/purple daisy like flower (not dissimilar to a Livingstone Daisy) which can be 4-5cm in diameter, which is a pretty impressive flower to plant size ratio.

Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones is ideally grown in pots with a free draining mix high in sand, but will also grow in rockeries and a wide range of gardens, and like all succulents is very drought tolerant, making it a favourite for pots and sun-drenched garden beds. The young foliage is generally silvery green, but can take on a typical green tone as they mature.

At The Climbing Fig, we believe in conservation through cultivation, so why not consider growing this stunning succulent variety, and ensure this valuable biodiversity is conserved. The seeds of Gibbaeum Pubescens Shandii Stones we have on offer have been sustainably sourced, and we look forward to helping other keen gardeners to share the joy of growing this fascinating plant.

Important note: The seeds of all Gibbaeum varieties are very small, in fact tiny. You will need to place the clear seed packet on a white piece of paper and hold up to a bright light to see the seeds. Please do not contact us telling us the seed packet "was empty"! If you are unable to see the tiny seeds, ask someone with better eyesight to assist. Given the small seeds, this variety is best started-off in small (~30mm) coir Jiffy pellets, ideally inside a suitable plant Propagation Kit (also available from our online store).
